SLEX 2010 on the move
Plans are well underway for this year’s Sustainable Living Expo (SLEX ’10), with a few major changes being made to the hugely successful event.
The first change is in the date, with the popular Expo being moved from September to the three days of October 29, 30, 31. The venue is also being moved from the Armidale Showground to Curtis and Civic Parks and the third change is a new event co-ordinator.Phil Johnston is Armidale Dumaresq Council’s new Tourism Project Manager and has also been handed the reins of SLEX event manager.
Mr Johnston moved to Armidale recently with his young family to take up the position.“My wife and I are both former students of UNE, so we have lived in Armidale before and if was very nice to return to the beautiful New England after more than a decade away,” Mr Johnston said.Mr Johnston said despite the change of dates and venue, much of SLEX would remain the same.“The change in date is for several reasons, but mainly because winter is well and truly over by the end of October so local gardens will look more spectacular and the warmer weather will also hopefully attract more visitors to the region to attend the event,” Mr Johnston said. “UNE has returned as the major sponsor for SLEX ’10 as have all the previous stakeholders including Sustainable Living Armidale, New England Sustainable Strategy (NESS), Southern New England Landcare, Sustainable Living Tour and many more exhibitors and supporters. They have all been very supportive of the change of date and venue.“In the coming months we will be announcing the line-up of guest speakers and this year the list is already looking very impressive, as are the businesses who are already signing up to be a part of the event.”
